Blessed by God

What are the true blessings of God? Have you given that much thought?  Many would equate the blessings of this world with the blessings of God. After all, doesn’t God want what is best? And certainly success in life, money, possessions, or power are all some of the best things, right? But God’s economy isn’t the same as the world’s. Quite a bit different in fact. God promises blessings on His followers. Much like a loving father would seek to bless his children, so does God seek to bless His. God bestows unbelievable blessings on His children. They just don’t look the same as what is seen in the world. Here is a look at the true blessings of God.

Forgiveness of Sin

Humanity is in bondage. This bondage tears your heart away from its Creator. Left to themselves, mankind cannot break the bonds of sin. The self is a powerful force and one that wars against the beauty and goodness of Christ. Sin exists in the heart of every man. The greatest blessing of God is forgiveness of that sin because of the cross of Christ. The death of Jesus on the cross paid the penalty of sin on man’s behalf. It satisfied the debt of man to God. Jesus substituted His life for man’s. The blood of Jesus washed away the sin of man. One only must believe in Him. And it is not just the past sins that are forgiven in Christ. All sin is forgiven. All past sin. All current sin. All future sin.

Freedom in Christ

The acceptance of God’s grace in Christ frees the believer from the burden of self-centered works. God’s favor is secured in the work of Christ on the cross. You are accepted in Christ rather than your own efforts. The Father does not see you as you anymore. He sees Christ over you. He sees His Son. You are complete in Christ. Works are not the securing force of that completion. Nor are they required to keep that completion. In Christ you are free from the bondage of sin. Not Rome. Not people. Not anything else. Free from that which truly enslaves man. You are now free to let Christ work in your heart and that will produce good works, true good works, in your life.

Heritage through Adoption

There is a mysterious union that takes place in salvation. You are adopted and become a fellow heir with Christ of all that the Father offers. You aren’t a hired servant. You aren’t a distant relative. You are a true child of God in Christ. It is a true blessing of God. All that is God’s is available to you. Safety. Security. God is not some displaced ethereal being in some sort of other realm. God is personal and close. He is with you. He is for you. He has made you His own through His Son. And the blessing of eternity is yours through Christ. Nothing can take that away. It is the seal of the Holy Spirit. The resurrection of Christ is the signed promise of your own resurrection into eternity with your Father. You have a beautiful future in Him.

Take note that the true blessings of God aren’t really physical elements. You can’t necessarily touch them, or hold them in your hand. They won’t make you look good to the world. But they are yours in Christ. They will bring God’s own comfort and peace to you. The self doesn’t go quietly. It wars against your heart being transformed by the Holy Spirit. Each day, remind yourself of these true blessings that are yours in Christ. They will be a stable and solid foundation for you throughout life.
