A Second War in Israel

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have long been simmering on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, but they spilled over into escalated attacks in each direction last week. While much of the world’s attention has been on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, the Iran-backed and Hamas-allied Hezbollah has continued its hostilities and threats in northern Israel. Last week’s developments, while being described as stopping short of all-out war, paint a vivid picture of the threat magnitude faced by Israel.

Analysis and eternal perspective: Another week, another wrinkle in the same story—Israel is under attack from a militant group with the goal of wiping Israel off the map. The result is a heartbreaking human toll of suffering on both sides of the border, as well as an escalating threat of a wider spreading war.

One of the most challenging goals we share as The Equipped family is the goal of persistence in the face of exhaustion. This is an exhausting story, and it is tempting to either push it to the side or grow weary in our commitment to calling the lost from every background to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. But do not grow weary in standing for what is true, as the harvest is reserved for those who do not give up (Gal. 6:9).

Pray for those in the region, as their suffering is intense. Reflect on our guiding scriptural principles. Acknowledge the special covenant God has with the Jewish people, as well as the abounding expansion of that covenant He offered to each of us through Jesus on the cross.

There is not an end to these conflicts in human sight. However, the day is coming in which, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes . . . There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things [will pass] away” (Rev. 21:4). That, my friend, is your promise, and it cannot be taken from you.
