It’s Okay to Say Merry Christmas!

Disregard the liberal left, the mainstream media, and progressive thought.

It’s okay to say Merry Christmas to fellow co-workers and colleagues while at work. The First Amendment protects your right to express religious greetings like “Merry Christmas.” Generally speaking, employers cannot prohibit such expressions unless they cause a significant workplace disruption. So as long as you are not disrupting normal business operations, share the joy of the season respectfully and confidently!

Employees enjoy protections under the United States Constitution. Reasonable accommodations by employers for the religious practices of their employees are required by law. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act mandates that employers accommodate religious practices, including time off for Christmas observances. If your faith-based activities, as an employee, conflicts with your work, you should provide advance notice to your employer to allow for reasonable adjustments.

And by the way, employers can celebrate Christmas too! Employers, whether public or private, can acknowledge Christmas without violating the law, as long as they do so inclusively. Christmas-themed decorations, parties, and greetings are legally permissible, provided they don’t exclude or marginalize others.

And it gets even better for the employees - you can legally display religious symbols in personal spaces like a cubicle or private office. Personal workspaces are generally fair ground for religious expression, like a nativity scene or Scripture verse. Please note that employers can set reasonable, uniform limitations, but they cannot single out or suppress Christian displays specifically.

In the end, remember that religious discrimination is unlawful. It’s illegal for employers to treat employees unfairly due to their faith or religious practices, including the celebrating of Christmas. Federal law protects employees in the workplace against anti-religious discrimination, ensuring that your rights to faith-based expression are upheld.

By keeping these legal protections in mind, employers and employees alike can embrace the Christmas season in the workplace with confidence. If you feel your rights have been violated, let us know and we can discuss with you how we can help.  Contact us here today. Merry Christmas!
