Can Churches Discriminate in Their Hiring Practices?
For decades, our society has accepted the premise that discrimination is wrong. However, we need to qualify this.
Shooting on Campus
Two people are dead and six injured after a shooting on the campus of Florida State University. The gunman is believed to be a 20-year-old student. Law enforcement officers shot and detained the suspect just a few minutes into the shooting, likely saving lives. While the gunman is hospitalized, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A Decade's Burden
On June 19, 2011, my brother Isaac and I scrambled around a small pond in order to secure a view across it for the moment a 22-year-old kid named Rory McIlroy sealed his first win in a major golf tournament.
Undefeated and Undisputed
As the sun rose over the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday, several thousand of us gathered to celebrate the central figure of all history—Jesus of Nazareth. It was our family’s first time to attend this particular sunrise service. But of course, we rose early and gathered to celebrate not because Jesus, like each of us, lived and then died. We gathered because Jesus, unlike each of us, rose to life again and forever defeated the undefeated grave!
Deportation Dispute
A legal dispute over deportations of alleged gang members continues to brew, as the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to temporarily pause the deportations while a challenge to the President’s authority to remove the detainees without full due process continues.
Death of a Pope
Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church, has died at the age of 88. Francis’s death comes after more than 12 years at the helm of the church, and a few weeks after being diagnosed with double pneumonia. He made a public appearance on Easter Sunday and also met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, and died Monday morning. There will be several days of mourning, after which a new pope will be selected.
Discipleship Begins at Home: Raising Kids Who Follow Jesus
When we think about discipleship, we often picture small groups, church programs, or mentoring relationships. But the truth is, discipleship starts long before a child ever steps into a youth group—it begins at home. As parents, we are called to be the primary disciple-makers in our children's lives, shaping their faith through both intentional teaching and everyday moments.
Tragedy in the Dominican Republic
More than 200 people have died and many more are injured after the roof of a packed nightclub collapsed during a concert in the Dominican Republic. Victims included several public figures, and authorities said it would be some time before an investigation would be able to determine a cause for the collapse.
Praying for Your Pastor - Part III: Praying for Your Pastor’s Family
Ministry doesn’t just affect pastors—it affects their families too. Being the spouse or child of a pastor comes with unique pressures, unseen struggles, and expectations that can feel overwhelming.
Arson at the Governor's Mansion
A 38-year-old suspect is in custody and will be charged with arson and attempted murder after allegedly breaking into the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion and lighting it on fire. The mansion sustained significant damage, but nobody was injured, as Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were evacuated in the middle of the night along with their guests.
Handiwork for Good Works
You are God’s handiwork. You are also the way in which God actively works in your tangible world (Eph. 2:10).
Tariffs and Markets
The wild ride on tariffs and in the financial markets continued this week as U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 90-day “pause” on most of the newly levied tariffs for countries exporting products into the U.S. The major exception to the pause was China, on which the tariff was increased to 125%. President Trump later announced that phones and certain other electronic devices would be exempt from the tariffs.
The Rhythms of a Healthy Pastor: Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal Practices for Longevity
Ministry is a marathon, not a sprint. Yet too many pastors live as if their calling requires them to run at a breakneck pace, neglecting the very rhythms that could sustain them for the long haul. Without intentional practices that prioritize spiritual, emotional, and physical health, burnout isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable.
Anchored to an Everlasting Love
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jer. 31:3) It is a simple truth you almost need to forget and then return to anew to fully grasp its magnitude: The all-powerful God of the universe loves you passionately and unceasingly!
10 Ways to Encourage Your Pastor This Week
Pastors pour themselves out week after week—preparing sermons, counseling struggling members, leading through challenges, and carrying the weight of spiritual leadership. And while many people appreciate their pastor, encouragement is often assumed rather than expressed.
Praying for Your Pastor - Part II: Praying for Your Pastor’s Spiritual Health
In ministry, it’s easy to assume that pastors are spiritually strong simply because they’re always preaching, teaching, and leading others in faith. But the reality is, many pastors struggle to maintain their own personal walk with God.
The Inflation No One Talks About: Higher Education’s Price Tag and Moral Bankruptcy
Inflation hurts hardworking Americans, yet there’s one inflated cost Democrats never seem to scream about—college tuition. Over the past 40 years, tuition prices have skyrocketed at a rate far outpacing general inflation, yet the return on investment has plummeted. Universities charge Mercedes prices for a Yugo education, producing graduates steeped in ideological dogma rather than critical thinking and real-world skills.
A Day in Court
The U.S. Supreme Court, in an unsigned opinion decided by a 5-4 vote, allowed the resumption of deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members under the authority of the Alien Enemies Act. The order, however, was unanimous that those facing deportation are entitled to judicial review, and the majority held that such review is properly considered wherever the accused is held (in this case, Texas).
Nuclear Negotiations
Leaders of the United States and Iran will meet this weekend in a high-stakes discussion about Iran’s nuclear program. The announcement comes immediately following a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trading Tariffs
A week after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a broad regime of tariffs, China and the U.S. continue to exchange escalating tariff announcements. The White House insists the tariffs will result in new trade deals with many countries, but early indications are that China is digging in for a more adversarial approach.
